[기자회견문]
미국은 보복전쟁 시도를 즉각 중단하라!
지난 11일 미국에서 발생한 테러 이후 전세계의 이목이 미국과 아프간을 향해
집중되고 있다. 미국의 부와 힘의 상징인 세계무역센터와 국방성을 향해 내리꽂힌
비행기의 폭발음이 결국 '21세기 첫 전쟁'의 신호탄이 되고 마는가. 미국은 끝내
무력으로 차지해온 세계최강대국의 지위를 확인하기 위해 약소국 국민을 상대로
'피의 보복'을 시작하고야 말 것인가.
우리는 지난 11일의 테러를 통해 목숨을 잃은 미국의 국민들에게 애도의 뜻을
표한다. 또한 건국이래 최대의 '재난'에 직면한 미국 국민들의 분노와 슬픔을
충분히 이해할 수 있다. 그러나 우리는 전세계가 미국 국민들의 분노와 슬픔의
깊이를 이해하는 만큼, 그들 역시 자신의 조국 '미국'이 전세계의 민중에게
안겨주었던 분노와 슬픔에 대해 되돌아보고 더 큰 불행을 향해 치닫는 오류를
범하지 않기를 바란다.
부시정권 출범이후 계속된 미국의 패권주의적 외교정책이 오늘의 비극과
무관하다고 할 수 없다. 세계 각국의 반대에도 불구하고 MD구축을 통해 군비경쟁을
가속화시키고, '기후변화협약 교토의정서' 비준을 거부한 행동 등은 이미 세계의
비난여론에 직면해 있었다. 더구나 미국에 대한 테러가 발생하기 바로 전, 미국은
유엔인종차별 철폐회의에서 이스라엘의 인종차별국가 규정철회를 요구하며
회의장에서 철수했다. 바로 그 순간 미국은, 자신들의 우방 이스라엘의 건국과
동시에 하루아침에 난민이 되어, 조국 재건을 위한 험난한 여정을 시작해야 했던
팔레스타인의 민중을 외면했다. 이스라엘이 팔레스타인의 경찰서를 향해 미사일을
퍼부을 때 미국은 '이스라엘의 공격은 충분한 명분이 있다'며 이스라엘에 정당성을
부여했다. 이스라엘과 팔레스타인의 비극으로 대표되는 미국과 이슬람문화권의
적대적 관계형성과 이를 통한 유혈사태에 대해 미국은 한 당사자로서 책임을 져야
한다.
미국 국내는 물론 전세계적으로 보복전쟁에 대한 '신중론'이 고개를 들고 있는
지금, 부시 대통령은 여전히 테러세력과의 장기전도 불사하겠다는 각오로 세계
인류를 전쟁의 공포로 몰아넣고 있다. 테러와의 연관성이 정확히 판명되지 않은
상태에서 '생사와 관계없이 빈 라덴에 대한 심판을 반드시 수행할 것'이라는 부시
대통령의 발언은 이번 전쟁이 손상된 미국의 자존심을 회복하기 위한 '분풀이용
보복성 전쟁'이라는 의심을 더욱 강하게 할 뿐이다. 이미 지난 98년 미국은
아프리카 케냐와 탄자니아 주재 미대사관 폭파사건의 책임자로 빈 라덴을
지목하고, 이와 관련되었다고 판단한 아프가니스탄에 공습을 감행한 바 있다.
그러나 그들이 무기제조공장이라고 주장했던 폭격대상은 단순한 제약회사에
불과했고, 그 피해자는 테러리스트가 아닌 민간인들이었다.
사회당은 미국의 보복전쟁 시도를 강력히 규탄한다. 무너져 내린 미국의 자존심을
회복하기 위해 수많은 민중을 제물로 바치는 '피의 카니발'을 재현할 수는 없다.
20세기, 미국의 최강대국 지위 확보를 위해 재단에 뿌려졌던 베트남과 팔레스타인
난민, 라틴 아메리카, 파나마, 이라크 민중들의 피는 아직 식지 않았다.
사회당은 민중의 생명을 담보로 하는 국가간의 모든 전쟁을 반대한다. 미국은 지금
당장 전쟁준비를 중단하라. 미국의 전쟁에 대한 지원의사를 밝힌 모든 국가와
세력들은 지원의사를 철회하라! 전쟁반대! 평화정착! 인류의 미래를 위한 유일한
선택이다.

[항의서한]
We urge Bush administration not to launch a war against terrorists!
The world is observing the situation around the USA and Afghanistan after the
terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon. We are concerned that the
deadliest attacks on the center of the world superpowers will trigger the
wars in 21st century and we oppose America will begin the 'bloody revenge'
against people in the lesser power in order to confirm itself as a world
superpower.
We express our deep condolences for the deceased, their families and the
whole American people and we understand their anger and sorrow. However,
'war' itself would trigger more terror. We hope that the American people
would have the reason to look back on the past faults their home country has
done to the people around the world and pledge to back the United States in
its war on terrorism.
There is some possible connections between today's tragedy and the foreign
policies of USA which put the US in the strong hegemony. The USA has
triggered the arms races through the Missile Defence system in spite of the
world opposition and resistance, and refused the 'Kyoto Protocol on the
climate changes' which provoked harsh criticism. In addition in the day right
before the attacks, the US delegates left from the UN conference, requiring
Israel to be exempted from a racist country. US supported one-sidedly Israel
when it attacked a police station in Palestine, saying that the incident had
a justifiable reason. US is responsible for the tensions and violent clashes
between Israel and Palestine as a country directly involved with the middle
east problems.
The US president George W. Bush ordered US troops to get ready for war and
braced Americans for a long, difficult assault against terrorists to avenge,
promoting a world-scale war. We cannot help doubting that this war is no more
than a retaliatory war exploited for the restoration of its lost
self-respect.
We, Socialist Party of Korea strongly impeach the reprisal war. We can't see
the 'reemergence of bloody carnival' in which lots of innocent people are
offered as sacrifices. We still remember deaths of Vietnamese, Palestinian,
Panamanian, Iraqi people who were sacrificed for an altar that is, US command
of world hegemony.
We, Socialist Party of Korea oppose all kinds of war which risk innocent
people's lives. US must withdraw its proclamation of war right now. And
countries supporting this war also withdraw their intentions to support the
America. Stop the War! Build a World Peace! This is the only resolution for
the future of all the people in the world.
